About
Overview of the School
Sunrise Academy is the first English-immersion school in the Moramanga district of Alaotra Mangoro, Madagascar. Founded in October 2019 by Rafanomezantsoa Falimanana (Fafah), the school began with just 19 students , 3 classes and 3 teachers .This first year was a challenge due to finances and teachers dedicated time and energy for a minimal salary - expenses couldn’t be covered yet. Today, we proudly educate over 400 students across preschool, primary, middle, and high school levels. And we pay our teachers a fair salary of 12 months for their dedication and expertise, while most private schools pay their teachers only for 10 months.
At Sunrise Academy, we combine academic excellence, holistic development, and a nurturing environment. Preschool and elementary classes are conducted fully in English, while secondary classes are taught in French, reflecting the availability of qualified teachers in our region.
We are committed to high standards, fairness, and transparency. Our students are encouraged to aim higher than the national average, while parents can rely on clear, upfront tuition information with no hidden fees. We also prioritize healthy nutrition, offering wholesome meals and an on-site snack shop that promotes smart, balanced eating habits.
Our teaching philosophy extends beyond the classroom: students benefit from experiential learning, volunteer support, and tailored assistance for those who need extra help — all free of charge. At Sunrise Academy, every student is supported to thrive academically and develop the essential life skills needed for the future.
Why Sunrise Academy is Different
At Sunrise Academy, we believe that education should challenge, inspire, and prepare students for life beyond the classroom. Our approach sets us apart in several key ways:
High Academic Standards
We encourage students to aim higher than the national norm. While the typical passing grade in Madagascar is 10/20, only students who achieve 12/20 progress to the next grade. This ensures that our students are genuinely prepared for future challenges.
Financial Transparency and Stability
We provide upfront tuition information with no hidden costs, allowing families to plan confidently. Our fair compensation policy ensures that teachers are paid a full 12 months’ salary, reflecting our respect for their dedication and expertise.
Healthy Nutrition
Our on-site snack shop and nutritious school meals promote cognitive development, physical health, and smart spending habits.
Equal Opportunity and Support
Every student is valued and supported. We offer free supplementary classes for students who need extra help, ensuring that no child is left behind.
Experiential Learning
Learning extends beyond the classroom. Students participate in outdoor activities, field trips, and practical projects that create memorable and impactful learning experiences.
Global and Multicultural Exposure
We welcome volunteers from around the world, bringing diverse teaching techniques and international perspectives to enrich our students’ education.
Holistic Development
Beyond academics, we focus on developing life skills, teamwork, and personal growth to prepare students for the challenges of adulthood.
At Sunrise Academy, we don’t just teach — we empower students to reach their full potential and thrive in all aspects of life.
School History
Sunrise Academy opened its doors on October 16, 2019, as the first English-immersion school in the Moramanga district of Alaotra Mangoro, Madagascar. What began as a small initiative with 19 students, has grown into a thriving community of over 400 students across preschool, primary, middle, and high school levels.
The first year was a challenge. Limited financial resources meant teachers worked for minimal pay, and the school struggled to cover basic expenses. Despite these hurdles, the dedication of our staff and the trust of our early families laid a strong foundation for the school’s growth.
Over the years, Sunrise Academy has become known for its high academic standards, nurturing environment, and holistic approach to learning. While preschool and primary education is conducted entirely in English, secondary education is delivered in French due to the availability of qualified teachers in the region.
The school was founded by Rafanomezantsoa Falimanana (Fafah), a passionate educator from Manjakandriana. Inspired by her own educational journey and challenges, Fafah envisioned a school where every child could thrive academically, socially, and personally, regardless of background.
Since its founding, Sunrise Academy has reached several milestones:
- Expansion from 19 students to over 400 students
- Full 12-month salary for teachers, reflecting our commitment to fair and stable employment
- Introduction of nutritious school meals and an on-site snack shop
- Development of extracurricular programs, volunteer initiatives, and support classes for students needing extra assistance
Today, Sunrise Academy stands as a beacon of quality education in the region, committed to academic excellence, personal growth, and community engagement.
